Get Off Your Duffy

Get Off Your Duffy

I try to hit my post office box once a week, and when it’s just me, I usually take the 405 freeway. When I have H.E. with me, however, like today, we take a more scenic route along the Pacific Coast Highway and see all the boat shops along Newport Beach.

Every time we pass the Duffy boats, I think back to the time I rode one and saw all those cool names on all the other boats like it in the harbor, and then I start racking my brains for new names.

See, Duffy boats are electric, and they typically have names that make a play on the words energy, electric, current, voltage, charge, amp, ohm, and watt. So you see names like Watts Up, Doc? or Ohm Sweet Ohm.

It’s hard to come up with new ones, though. Most of the good ones have already been discovered and taken; I’ve seen a good many of them and forget more existing ones than I can brainstorm new ones. According to the sign where the Duffy boats were, this week’s top name was Watts Ampening? Last week, it was Ample Energy.

I came up with Under Watt Or Charge, but H.E. advised me that anything “underwater” is NOT a good name for a boat. He liked Ohm, My God!, though, which was the first name I blurted. The best one I’ve come up with so far uses two of the words and hints at what I’ve been reading lately: Ohms and Watts On. H.E. came up with an even better one: Watts Up, Ohms?

Others off the top of my head?

Watt Or Work
Ohm Eye!
Ohm Watt A Night

I wish I could come up with more, though; I have a hard time coming up with anything that doesn’t already exist. Anyone else have some ideas?

  1. “A Volt From The Blue” ( a play on “bolt from the blue”)

“Faraday Winds” (Faraday studied electromagnetics, the Farad is a unit of capacitance)

    “Eversteady”

    “DuraSail”

    “Watts on the Water”

    “Wattever”

    “So Watt”

…. man, they just keep flowing 🙂

  2. “Ohm, my god!” was the first thing that came to mind. (Great minds…)

    Ohmic goodness
    Ohm pal ohm pa
    Amperical evidence
    Wattzap
    AC potential
    I’m so DC

    This is slightly addictive.

  3. Yep. They do keep flowing, and it is addictive. LOL. That’s why I had to share it. I was driving H.E. batty by announcing another new name every five minutes or so. 🙂
