Gotta Book
I want to be more organized for this latest move, so I signed up at LibraryThing and bought myself a CueCat to keep better track of the books I’ll be packing.
So far, I’ve packed my very first 12″ x 12″ x 12″ box and cataloged 21 of my books so far.
I’m looking at the small dent I’ve now made on the shelf of one bookcase, and I’m thinking, “Whew! OK. That’s enough packing for today.”
10/13/2007 Update: Four boxes packed. 114 books cataloged. The first of four bookcases is about one-third cleared.
10/15/2007 Update: Nine boxes packed. 268 books cataloged. First bookcase still not completely cleared, but at least I’ve started on two other bookcases. I’d be further along if I didn’t have an upset stomach, but when you’re sick, you’re sick. I wonder what my little collection says about me so far, and I wonder what the final number of books will be … or how many more books I would have had to pack if I had never given away so many books or left so many behind at my mother’s place. I once had a shelf full of Sweet Dreams teen romance novels and a shelf full of Xanth fantasies. I gave the Sweet Dreams books to my cousins and friends, and I sold my collection of the Xanth series to a used book store. I left behind a set of 12 books that were full of stories for all ages, an entire set of matching gilt-edged classics that would look great on any shelf, and an encyclopedia set from the year I was born; I wish I had the first two, but I don’t mind not having the last. I remember reading a few books over and over again—Sidney Sheldon’s If Tomorrow Comes and a Reader’s Digest coffee table book—and I’m bummed that I no longer have them any more. I’m seriously considering buying replacement copies.

Wow, that gadget is super awesome. I am so getting one, too.
Remember to breathe from time to time. And hydrate yourself! Drink more water.
I may sound like a mother hen, but I love ya. 😉
Thanks, hon!
And I do love this little gadget. Many of my books actually don’t have bar codes (just ISBNs, and some only findable in the National Library of Australia, even), but I’m having fun swiping when I can. I’m beginning to wonder exactly how many books I’ll end up cataloging. I just realized that all my music books count, too.
Where did you get your CueCat? I’ve got tons of books, and a good chunk of them have bar codes.
LibraryThing sells CueCats, actually. 🙂

As you can tell, I haven’t mailed you that book yet. Maybe I should wait just a little longer, LOL.
