Just Wild About Harry
I expect it to be very quiet on the net today, more so than usual on a Saturday. I imagine that people the world over are busily reading the final Harry Potter book and staying away from anything that might spoil the ending for them before they’ve finished.
Me, I’m content to wait. The book prices usually fall right after the first big rush … because stores might have ordered too many. I once bought a hardcover Harry Potter book for $3, and I wouldn’t mind doing that again.
This is not to say I’m not curious about the ending. I am. But when it comes to reading, it’s always been about the journey for me, rather than the destination.
A month ago, Keith Olbermann had a really great theory about what the ending might be. He had no inside information, and it was all speculation on his part, but however the ending actually turns out, I still think his ending’s the best … where in an act of self-sacrifice, and with the help of Severus Snape, Harry gives up his ability to do magic in order to rid the world forever of the dark lord Voldemort—which keeps Harry alive but effectively ends the series for all time. I can’t imagine a better ending, really.
So I hope Olbermann ends up being right. I hope he guessed the ending exactly.
In the meantime, I’m content to wait out the crowds and read the book at my leisure, after I’ve bought it at a bargain after-rush price.
Even if anyone dares to spoil the ending for me, I’ll be glad to take the journey.

Yep, I stayed away until I finished the book. Too scared of spoilers. I even avoided friends who were also reading the book, for fear I’d know from their expressions how it would end. Then again, my entire family borrows my copy to read, so I think we get our money’s worth.
Kat, did you find you needed time to process the ending? Two people I know who have just finished it, they both said they needed some time to think about the ending.
I’ve reread the ending. It’s not so much processing, just going back to see if I missed details. It kind of went in the direction I thought it would, though, so that helped in terms of getting my head around what happened. Also, I think I’m in mourning for the series, so I’m trying to extract as much meaning as I can from the ending. And some of the character arcs (well, one in particular) broke my romance-reading heart, so I had to go back and read that, too!
It’s hard to talk about without spoilers! *lol*
lol, and I thank you for not spoiling it! 🙂
