Time to Draw the Line

Time to Draw the Line

random squiggly lineI remember watching a children’s television show where the host was also an artist. He’d challenge the audience to send in doodles of squiggly lines with which he could create new artwork, and letters from all over the country would come to the studio, all with funny squiggly lines. Then, right before our very eyes, he’d take a squiggly line and add more squiggly lines to it, until voilà—there, for all to see, was a new drawing.

random squiggly line with drawingDuring my breaks at work today, I noticed that I’d been doodling random squiggly lines on my notepad, and that’s when I was reminded of that television show with the hosting artist. So I took a random line and elaborated upon it, and voilà—instant drawing.

Then I thought to myself, “Hey… wouldn’t it be neat if other people drew something out of my squiggly lines? Or… wouldn’t it be neat if other people sent me their squiggly lines so I could draw something out of those?” I don’t know. Just for grins and giggles? I would dearly love it if people played.

So… does anyone want to play with me? Here’s a squiggly line to start you off:

Or,… if you prefer, you could just play with other doodles.

  1. Well. Since i can’t do anything creative on my website i may as well play here.

But food is different for different people and what can i say? I am different.

She. All perky and fresh. Came over to the table. My motto…if I can smell it I can eat it. She. Alll perky and fresh.

Hi my name is Stephen. I am a King. Sometimes I am even more than that. Like what? Well there is always Emperor. And then there is always so much more.

And I had a dream. And in this dream i was not like everyone else. I was running around in circles getting dizzy. And in the spin, I found a way to be more than tomorrow, today.

And this is why you come here.
And this is why you pray.
    That tomorrow will sometimes be
    Better than today.

Am I forgetting anything? Yeah. Bite me!

  4. I just want to know how many people are you, April?

You write, you doodle, you paint, you play piano AND dance! You hold down a 40 hour-a-week job, you tend to the cat and yet you can find time to play entertainment director for us lesser folks!

    Wonderwoman?

  5. doodlin’, doodlin’ here inspired by you as usual – me? an insomniac lately also…thanks for the entertainment! you are waaaaay too much fun.

  6. All of these changes you have been making are SOOOOOO cool. Nice work April, really great stuff! Broch

  7. heh, playing with these ideas I love. Where are everyone else’s?! The idea is to see things inside anything, right? Patterns and opening your mind, not to be super good at it, so I’d like to see everyone else’s, no matter what how good they think it (they) are!

  8. how about the origin of doodles ? like how does a doodle happen, is it when the brain is tired of a subject, like why do we doodle sometimes when we study ? I was doing zoology and I wound up doodling a tree ? I was wondering if it was deliberate or if my brain was tired .
