E-mail Down

E-mail Down

Those of you who subscribe to my Twitter feed already know this from last night, but my e-mail is STILL down, and Dreamhost (their name no longer appropriate) is taking their very sweet time responding to my support ticket. My IMAP server won’t recognize my username or password, whether I try to access it by Mail, by Thunderbird, or by either of my mobile devices. I can, however, access my mail via the web browser, but it’s uber slow and downright frustrating to use.

[Insert swear words and threats of eternal damnation to the e-mail server here.]

My Gmail account still seems to be working, though I hate having to revert to using it. Still, if any of you have emergencies, you have my other contact information and you know the drill.

Just an FYI.

Update 12:30PM: Dreamhost STILL hasn’t responded to my support ticket (16 hours and still counting!), but I think I managed to fix it myself in between working on covers (damn you, Dreamhost! I didn’t have time to try and figure this out myself; you should have responded right away!). First, I have my e-mail set up using IMAP, and it has ALWAYS worked until yesterday evening. The Dreamhost wiki stated that if my webmail was still working, then the problem was on MY end, but I couldn’t accept that because I hadn’t changed a thing, not a single setting, and yet all of a sudden — poof! No access to e-mail.

Well … it turns out I was using old account information, only I didn’t know it at the time. I had to input new server name information and new usernames. Same accounts, same passwords — just slight tweaks. But NO ONE TOLD ME there was going to be some kind of changeover yesterday, OUT OF THE BLUE, and that all the rules would change. The status blog didn’t even touch the subject of e-mail servers. Come on, Dreamhost, throw me a bone, OK?

Anyway, everything seems to be working out now, thanks to my pure orneriness. I guess I’ll be withdrawing my support ticket, with no thanks to my web host.

Argh! I’m so behind now.

  1. I am truly sorry for your loss.
I am a slave to technology and would be far from amused if my electronic feelers were misbehaving.
We’ll just have to start a prayer circle!
