One

This is an illustration I did for a story called “One” by Marlo Dianne, to be published in the seventh issue of Tales of the Talisman. The story is one page long, so I won’t post even a one-line summary for fear I’ll give away the entire plot. It’s a great story though, with a cool twist. I had to read it several times again after the first time because I couldn’t figure out which lines were literal and which were metaphorical, something I had to determine before even sketching a draft.

I didn’t do a pure cartoon for this illustration—pure, in my eyes, meaning completely from scratch. I usually do for Talisman, but the nature of this story made me want to have a little bit of realism within the cartoon, so I used some scrap for reference this time around.

Below is a compilation of the scrap I used:

Scrap

Yep. Body parts from several different people make up my illustrated character, kind of fitting given the storyline, but I can’t tell you why it’s fitting because, again, I’d be giving away the plot. Heck, the scrap itself may give it away, but hopefully not enough of it.

There is, however, one part of the story I’d like to share. One character asks another, “Say one, just one, sentence that totals your relationship.”

I’m still trying to figure out what one sentence would sum up mine. What about you?

  1. Amazing how you compiled all those separate images into one. Your creativity just oozes! I must say, I find it intriguing that your gentleman character just happens to have some handy tampons in his jacket.

My one (partial-) sentence that totals my relationship with DH:

    Forever endeavor.

  2. I wondered about the tampons?! I agree w/ CZ, the collage of pics into one man is great.

  3. A good sentence that sums up my relationship? With my wife I’m going to assume… I love my best friend.
